The 10th Latin American Congress of Biomedical Engineering (CLAIB 2024) took place in vibrant Panama City, bringing together researchers, clinicians, and engineers from across the region. This milestone edition of CLAIB underscored the importance of Latin America as a hub for innovation, collaboration, and knowledge exchange in biomedical engineering. In the previous version was celebrated in Cancun Mexico and in this edition we aimed at give continuity to the advencements in the region.
The congress provided a dynamic platform for sharing cutting-edge research in clinical engineering, medical imaging, digital health, biosensors, and artificial intelligence in healthcare. Beyond technical sessions, participants also engaged in discussions about the role of biomedical engineers in shaping healthcare policies and advancing health technology management in the region.
What made this edition special was its emphasis on regional collaboration. Latin America faces unique healthcare challenges, and CLAIB highlighted innovative, locally driven solutions that can inspire global practice. The active involvement of students and young professionals also reflected the congress’s commitment to developing the next generation of biomedical engineers.
As one of its main supporters, the IFMBE (International Federation for Medical and Biological Engineering) played a pivotal role in promoting the event, ensuring the Latin American biomedical engineering community remains well connected with global networks. Through initiatives like CLAIB, IFMBE strengthens its mission of advancing healthcare worldwide by supporting safe, effective, and innovative use of technology.
CLAIB 2024 was more than a congress; it was a celebration of Latin America’s growing impact on biomedical engineering, paving the way for future collaborations and breakthroughs that will benefit patients across the globe.
